Tri-City Post 513's History
The origins of Tri-City American Legion Post #513 rest in St. Anthony Village -- and date back to 1949. Wilbur Burton was the first Commander of the Post, and it resided in St. Anthony Village.
On February 14, 1986, the Post moved to its location to New Brighton and became the Tri-City Post, with the name being derived from the three communities it served -- Columbia Heights, New Brighton, and St. Anthony Village.
It occupied a building at 400 Old Highway 8 N.W. through January of 2011, when economic conditions unfortunately forced the Post to close its building.
Despite no longer having an actual building of its own at which to conduct meetings, Tri-City American Legion Post 513 remains strong, with over 600 members -- and those members continue to serve the area communities, through numerous veterans and community service programs.
Tri-City American Legion Post 513 also hosts a large Auxiliary Unit membership, as well as a sizable Sons of the American Legion (SAL) squadron. The Organization of MN Posts, by District
The State ("Department") of Minnesota is divided into 10 Districts, as shown by the map. Tri-City is a member of the American Legion's 10th District.
Tri-City, however, has the unique distinction of sponsoring three American Legion Baseball teams -- which complete in different American Legion Districts. The Tri-City Blue team, based at St. Anthony Village High School, competes in the 10th District. Meanwhile, Tri-City Red and Tri-City Maroon compete within the 4th District, because their base high schools of Mounds View and Irondale, respectively, are physically situated in the American Legion's 4th Distrct. Tri-City Red earned Tri-City Post 513 added national recognition, when it brought home the American Legion Baseball national World Series championship in 1999.
